OMAPAC RAISES FUNDS TO KEEP ELMWOOD POOL OPEN
Jim Vokal, OMAPAC Chairman, to make announcement today
OMAHA, NEB – Jim Vokal, OMAPAC’s Chairman will hold a press conference with Omaha constituents and community leaders today at 1 pm at Elmwood Pool to announce that funds have been raised to keep the pool open for another week.
“The proposal to close the pool early did not sit well with area residents. A total of $4,500 was required and raised in one day.

OMAPAC WEARY OF COSMETIC BUDGET CUTS
Jim Vokal, OMAPAC Chairman, Stresses Cuts from Mayor’s Personnel Budget
OMAHA, NEB – Mayor Jim Suttle announced this week that several Omaha pools will be closed early this season in order to meet budget shortfalls. OMAPAC believes that these pool closings are not ways to solve the City of Omaha budget deficit, but are simply window dressing during a crisis.
“The proposal to close the pools early is simply a cosmetic fix. The cuts are meant to distract the public from the reality of Mayor Suttle’s unwillingness to make meaningful budget cuts,” said OMAPAC Honorary Chairman Jim Vokal.
With Omaha facing a 14 million dollar deficit, the Suttle administration has given substantial raises to senior administration staff. In eliminating these raises, Omaha would save over $113,000. In comparison, Suttle’s plan to close pools early would save under $50,000. OMAPAC proposes that a greater cut come from administration salaries over pool closings.
